Tone It Up (TIU) 5 Day Slim Down

Hey there,

It’s Lindsay, the other half of this dynamic duo. I have been married to my husband (C) for close to 3 years and this year for his birthday I decided to get him something spicy, boudoir photos. To get my post baby body in half naked photo ready condition I am starting the 5 day slim down from the TIU nutrition program.  Soon you will realize that when it comes to fitness we have 3 main obsessions: Soulcycle, Tracy Anderson and Karena & Katrina from Tone It Up! K & K are two friends who met at the gym and decided to team up to create a fitness and lifestyle company that helps women look and feel their best. The main reason we are super obsessed with this dynamic duo, other then their tight asses and amazing hair, is that they keep things fun and simple (for the most part). Their workouts are free (they have 2 Beach Body DVD’s out to purchase) and can all be done in the comfort of your home with a yoga mat and a 5lbs set of dumbbells. A few of my favorites are the Malibooty workout, Sunseeker Abs and Love your Arms. If you don’t already follow them on social media you are totally missing out!!!

Getting back to the 5 Day Slim Down…On Black Friday we finally decided to take the plunge and purchase the TIU Nutrition program because it was on sale and we never pass up a sale. It is a lifetime membership and so far has been good to us. In the program you get access to a 5 & 7 day slim down. These programs are meant to be used for photo prep or to look your best before a big event. If I am going to do one of them this is the time! I took my copy of the plan to the grocery store with me and purchased everything I needed for the 5 days. I even bought a 2 L water bottle because the plan calls for you to drink ½ your body weight in ounces in water. In my case that is 2048 ounces which is way more water then I drink normally.

One of the craziest hours of my day is when I walk in the door from work and have to turn around dinner in 30 minutes. The hardest part is always keeping it healthy because we all know how easy it is to grab some pasta, throw a jar of sauce on and ta-da. Fortunately for my family I know that it takes just as long to brown some ground turkey breast for tacos (recipe below) as it does to boil water and cook pasta. We rarely eat food from a box but to keep us from being tempted I always prep my food on Sunday, Wash /Cut all veggies, marinate or prep protein for the week, bake some banana muffins for J & C and cook a big dinner on Sunday that can be packed for lunch throughout the week.  Another tip is to portion out all your veggies in Ziploc bags to make it easy to grab for your lunch.  If you are having wraps (as this plan calls for), make all your wraps on Sunday. The beauty of a wrap is it won’t go soggy (unless it’s tuna) and has less carbs then 2 pieces of bread.

Now that my breakfast, most of my lunches and dinners are all prepped for the week it is on to setting that damn alarm. This plan calls for cardio as soon as you wake up so I have set my alarm for 5:00 AM (gross I know!). Waking up at 5:00 AM is not foreign to me but waking up at 5:00 AM to do cardio may be the most challenging part of these 5 days. You are not “supposed” to drink coffee but coffee is a non negotiator for me….it’s what gets me through days of little to no sleep.

I took my before picture and will post a side by side at the end of day 5. Wish me luck!!

Weeknight tacos

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cooktime: 10 minutes

 Ingredients

·         1 package of ground turkey breast

·         1 package of corn tortillas

·         3 roma tomatoes, chopped

·         1 romaine heart, sliced

·         1 green onion, chopped

·         1 red bell pepper, chopped

·         1 yellow bell pepper, chopped

·         ½ c light old cheddar cheese, shredded

·         sugar free medium salsa

·         Greek yoghurt (who needs sour cream anymore)

·         1 tbsp olive oil

·         Taco seasoning (we use one from Silk Road Spice Merchant)

Directions

1.      Heat olive oil in frying pan over medium heat

2.      Add ground turkey and brown

3.      Add Taco seasoning (follow instructions on the bottle)

Serve ground turkey on corn tortillas with all the veggies. If you want to cut the tortilla sometimes I eat this as a salad, it is equally as filling.

Honestly it is as easy as that and in 20 minutes you have a healthy meal that the entire family will eat up. We never have leftovers on taco night!

Welcome to our blog!

Good Morning World!

Welcome to our blog. We are over the moon about this little project and have been talking about doing it for as long as we can remember. With the New Year upon us it felt like the perfect time to make it a reality. We don’t have a budget or professional photos and definitely no writing experience (unless you count grade 10 English essays).

Our plan is to share our favourite workouts, recipes, fitness tips and basically anything that we feel all of our friends should know about. We hope to recruit fabulous guest contributors and develop this into a platform for us to share our passions. Thank you for joining us on our journey.

A bit about us....

We are two sisters who share a love for sweaty workouts, strong coffee, healthy meals, cussing, hot rollers, laughing until we cry and our family. We are both desk jockeys by day and fitness instructors every other waking moment. Lindsay is a wife and a mom to a beautiful little girl, Jane. Kristie is happily unmarried and lives with her best friend in the whole world, her crazy eleven year old dog, Joey.
